HILLSIDE MEMORIAL PARK: AL'S FINAL RESTING PLACE

Al Jolson is interred in a very ornate and prominent sarcophagus and monument on the hill at the Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, a Jewish park. Hillside is located at 6001 Centinella Avenue in Culver City, CA. Al's gazebo style monument is perched above a beautiful cascading waterfall and overlooks scenic grounds. In the ceiling above the gazebo over Al's sarcophagus, is chiseled, "The Sweet Singer of Israel; His Voice Raised on High."

Adjacent to the monument is a life-size bronze statue of Al on bent knee, which was dedicated in 1951.

Al's final resting place is a beautiful, and still tranquil place for a man who was bigger than life in both life and in eternity. It is sure to move all who visit it.

We will hold a formal salute to Al by the graveside on Sunday, May 18, 2003 following the closing breakfast. A roundtrip bus will be available for $20 per person. this will include a color guard, and remarks by myself, Richard Halpern, Dolores Kontowicz, and John Wehrman. A floral wreathe will be dedicated.

In the Mausoleum building behind Al, are interred many individuals from the world of entertainment and sport; including several of Al's co-stars. Included among them, are George Jessel, Sam Katzman, David Jansen, Irene Mayer Selznick, Jack Benny, Eddie Cantor, Michael Landon, the Max Factor family, Lorne Greene, Mark Goodsen, Hank Greenberg, and Dinah Shore.

Note- Hillside is still an operational park, and is a quiet place of reflection and solace for families visiting loved ones. It is entirely possible that there could be a nearby service during our ceremony. Please be respectful of their privacy and keep noise and chatter to a minimum.
