Welcome aboard the RMS Queen Mary for the 18th Annual Festival of the International Al Jolson Society! It is my pleasure to welcome you all to our website, and to invite Al Jolson lovers everywhere to join us at the RMS Queen Mary for a very special weekend. Between our optional trip to the beautiful and quaint village of Avalon at magical Catalina Island, to the historic elegance and majesty of the ship herself, we will really be caught in a time warp! We are stepping back on the sands of time and becoming a part of the elegance and glamour of the 1920's and 1930's as we become first class passengers on the world's most beloved liner! We are going to do lots of new, innovative, and different things. We are going to explore the great and fascinating diversity that was the life of one Asa Joelson, the world's greatest entertainer, Mr. Al Jolson! We will look at his career in radio, motion pictures, understand the need and commitment to preservation, and most importantly, we are going to honor Al Jolson the citizen. Al Jolson the patriot. We are going to dedicate an evening to honor GI Al and our veterans. This will be an unforgettable salute to the Greatest Generation.
The host crew urges all of you to take advantage of what Southern California has to offer; this is a vacation mecca- America's summer playground! Come early and stay late, and make it a relaxing vacation! We got it all! And don't forget... we have Jolie's star at Palm Springs ,plus three stars and footprints at Hollywood Boulevard! Being right in the heart of the entertainment industry, this will be the last great parade of celebrities and Jolson peers connected to that indelible generation of 20th century entertainers, so don't miss out!
